The Society maintains a collection of over 3,000 photographs, negatives, slides, manuscripts and artifacts about our local history in an archive located in the Grimstead room of the Metuchen Library.
In February we sponsor Metuchen-Edison Local Day where we display items from our archives. We also sponsor historical programs with guest speakers 6 times a year, and often take field trips to nearby historic sites.
Over the years in we have brought history to the people with the 2002 reenactment of the Battle of the Short Hills, the Passport To Edison, historic walking tours, cemetery tours and cleanups. We have done presentations for school and community groups.
The Society has also reproduced old maps, publications, postcards, note-cards, and other items that are for sale at reasonable prices.
If you are interested in history, and would like to help preserve our area’s heritage we invite you to join the Society. Membership in the Society is a cornerstone that helps us present interesting programs and preserve local history.
