The Edison Division of Fire is a combination Fire Department with a total complement of 134 Career and 85 Volunteer Firefighters and Officers. Career personnel are assigned to 6 Fire Stations throughout the Township with 32 on duty personnel 24 hours / 365 days a year, utilizing 7 Fire Pumpers, 2 Aerial Trucks, 1 Rescue and 4 support vehicles. The Volunteer Fire Companies respond from 4 Fire Stations utilizing 3 Fire Pumpers, 2 Brush Trucks and 9 support vehicles. The Division responded to 2,925 calls for service in 2013 including 70 structure fires, 56 Rescues, 154 vehicle accidents and 414 First responder medical calls.
The Fire Prevention and Inspection Bureau with a personnel complement of 1 Fire Official and 4 Fire Inspectors are responsible for 870 Life Hazard Use occupancies, compiling 1,611 inspections of those occupancies, 1,100 smoke detector inspections and handles all fire safety complaints and concerns, Monday – Friday 08:00am until 4:00pm at 732-248-7558 or 732-248-7450. Residents are reminded that smoke detectors are required on every level of the residence and within 10 feet of sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide detectors are required within 10 feet of sleeping areas.

As of July 1st the fire prevention bureau will be going back to in-person home inspections for smoke and carbon monoxide alarm compliance for home resale certifications. All scheduling must be done in person at the fire prevention counter located in fire headquarters on the 3rd floor on the municipal building
